The moon is a main attraction again...water is found on the moon!!!! (Current event)

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g_WHHFPrQjvdnQhVIvx5o9a-v66AD9BV87LG1

Who:NASA found water on the moon by looking through a telescope.

What:NASA sent a rover to the moon. The rover crashed and water came out of the crater the rover crashed into.

Where:The water that was discovered near the south pole of the moon.

When:The water was discovered on Friday, November 13,2009.

Why:The water wasn't found on purpose, the rover crashed, and water came out.

How:The rover crashed into a weak spot on the moon and water came out.

On Friday November13,2009 an astonishing discovery was made.Water was found on the moon.First of all, the water was discovered "accidentally". It all started last year in October when NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) sent a rover over to the moon. On its way back, something went wrong when the rover was lifting off of the moon(the day it left the moon was Friday November 13).The rover crashed and...water was spewing out of the place where the rover had crashed. Many people who work at NASA predicted that the rover crashed into a weak spot on the moon. Also, the discovery of water on the moon might come in handy. The water on the moon can help by if the supply of water ran out,and there are people on the moon, they can get from the water that is available on the moon and use it.

In conclusion, I think that in the future, the water on the moon will lead America to eventually send men to the moon again. Although many think NASA should keep focused on mars. In my opinion, I think that NASA should send people to the moon and actually check if there is water, or if it is another kind of liquid. I also think that samples of the water should be brought to earth to make sure it is regular and not salt water. Furthermore, new water should be brought to earth because there is lots of water that is being polluted.

Density Lab (Class Response)

Last week, I was assigned to a group. We where supposed to do a lab based on how liquids don't mix together if they don't have the same density. For example, we put ketchup and poured, with caution, syrup on it, the syrup wouldn't mix with the ketchup. One thing I learned is that when you put some thing less dense first, then pour something more dense than the first liquid, the less dense liquid will make way for the more dense liquid and the less dense liquid will rise to the top. Also, when my group and I left the cup that had the liquids over night, they rearranged. The liquids rearranged themselves from most dense to least dense. Lastly, that if you piur the liquids carelessly, then the liquids will mix and will not rearrange to be in order.

http://gifted-classes-materials-lessons.suite101.com/article.cf/finding_the_density_of_a_liquids

-A liquid's density can change due to the temperature
-The density of water can change. Depending on it's temperature.

My opinion about this fascinating lab is that it taught me many things I have never new before. For example, I never knew that liquids with different densities made boundaries and never got mixed when the where pour carefully. All in all, I think that this was a great lab and it taught me many fascinating facts.

What:Chinese scientists found a fossil of a dinosaur.

Where:In north eastern China. In a dried up river bank.

When:On September 17, 2009.

Why:The didn't look for it, the fossil showed up when the river dried up.

How:The fossil was found while people were digging up the dried river.

On September 17,2009 a group of scientists found a whole skeleton of Tyrannosaurus Rex. They have tested it for its strength and it was said to be that it was small than the t-rex about 100 times, but it was as strong. It was found that it was alive more than 100,000,000 years ago. So, they lived way before the tyrannosaurus. Telling scientists that this dinosaur might be the ancestor of the tyrannosaurus rex.

In conclusion, I think that this a huge step forward learning about the early dinosaurs. Especially about the tyrannosaurus rex. Also, This is a great way for the scientists to stude the early dinosaur age and the early tyrannosaurus rex.

Plasticity of the earth's mantle

On Friday 5/22 we did a lab that would give us an idea about the plasticity of the mantle. We mixed water with corn starch and mixed. We then put the mix in our hands. When i rubbed the mix together, it would turn into rock, but when I let it go, it would melt and feel like rubber. Eventhough when the mix melted it was still somewhat hard. When I put my finger in fast, it would go through, but when I put my finger in slowly, the mix would melt when my finger is inside causing it to harden on my fingers a little. In conclusion, this lab gave me an idea of how the mantle functions and how the mantle keeps the crust floating and keeps it from collapsing on itself.

Blog Response (October Sky)

There were a lot of dreams that were accomplished, and some were crushed. In the movie October Sky, there were many rocket launches. There was a teenage boy named Homer Hickam was always interested in building rockets. He built them, but always failed. He then received help from his friends. This movie is very inspiring because it encourages everyone to do what they believe in and never give up till you get it right. This movie showed cooperation because all four boys helped each other till they got it right and made sure what they were doing was right because when they do a launch on display, it would be successful. In conclusion, eventhough Homer's father wasn't happy of what he was doing, Homer Hickam was happy with what he was doing and went to win the science fair near the end of the movie.

math,cars,tv,bmw's Blog Response (Color Blindness)

One of the disorders that are very hard and frustrating is a disorder that is sometimes common named color blindness. Color blindness is very frustrating because it avoids you to see many colors or you will see a color as in a different way. For example, if you have color blindness, and you look at the color green, you will see it as a very bight yellow. Also, it is very frustrating because of the traffic lights. You will not be able to the lights, which are the colors green, red and yellow. So you won't know when to stop, go or get ready to stop. Color blindness can happen at any time during your lifetime and you can sometimes be born with it.

Genetic Disorders (patau's syndrome)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patau%27s_syndrome There are so many diseases a human can live through, but some a disease a human dies. For example, there is patau's syndrome. This is a very rare disease but is very uncommon. It was founded by an Italian scientist named David Patau. What happens to the baby is that, everything is deformed inside and out. For eaxample, there is severe brain shrinkage, and body parts are places where they are not supposed to. Like having an ear where your nose is. Scientists discovered that 20% of it happens to males and only 2% happens to females. Also it was discovered that the syndrome happens every 25,00 births. Some symptoms is when a baby has a very bad smell when in side the mother. There are no cures for this terrible disease because a baby only lives about 4-8 weeks, and if lucky enough, it lives about 1-2 years. Also, if the baby survives, it will have a severe case of mental retardation. The whole world is vulnerable to patau's and nobody knows why. Lastly, this disease isn't contagious and and is not inherited. If feel bad for people who have patau's syndrome because they only live a short life from 4 weeks to 2 years. This is because there is one extra chromosome created.

Social Studies (A woman dies in a car accident)

http://www.centraljersey.com/articles/2009/02/23/south_brunswick_post/news/doc499d720adeca0638273656.txt
On a Monday morning, in South Brunswick, at 3:00 a.m., a 27 year-old women veered off of a road with her '01 Honda Civic. She crashes into a mailbox and finally crashing into a utility post. The police said that she was not wearing her seat belt. Also, she died because of her bad injuries. Police also reported that she had a bottle of vodka with her that was opened.

My opinion is that she probably came back from a club.
The reason why she veered off the road is that she was drunk from drinking vodka. She was also driving. In conclusion, these are the events that happened locally.

Current events (Weight loss supplements can be a health hazard)

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/02/23/healthmag.weightloss.supplement/index.html

Scientists have been discussing and have found out that pills that are taken to make you lose weight are health hazardous. These type of pills are health hazardous because the pills contained a drug. The drug's name is rimonabant. This drug is illegal in the United States. Some also had a drug named sibutramine, which is legall in the United States.

I think that the people who make this pill should stop before many people will get hurt because of the harmful drugs used.

Social Studies blog

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/02/tough_new_state_tests_spur_hig.html
In the state of New Jersey, about half of the students are failing school. Some of the schools say that the state requirements of passing are easy, but the students were being pushed into pressure. Governer of New jersey, Jon Corzine, said that in many places like Camden and Paterson had many failing students. Ranging from 40 percent to 70 percent of failing students.

My opinion of this article is that teachers should not push hard. Also, students should seek help from their teachers. If this happens, and they study, schools would become better and the percentages of students failing would decrease. Thus, I think if a student is failing, the school should get help right away instead of leaving them fail and do very little to help.

http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/other/press/links/web_specials/story/394602.html
In Trenton, New Jersey the teachers have made a test (kind of like the NJ Ask) and many students have passed. The problem is that the huge numbers of people failing are grades 5, 6, and 7. Also, the problem is that the difference between the failing and passing students in the given grades are ranging from 10 to about 50. This is not good. Schools should get help as soon as possible and should encourage the students to study so the percentage of students failing would go down and the percentage of the students of the students passing would go up.

My opinion about this article is that teacher should give home work to the failing students. Also, for teachers to help failing students, they should encourage the students to study and give frequent test or quizes to help their grades.

Class Response (Friction)

There are many ways types of force. One type of force is called friction. Friction is when a force that acts in an opposite direction of the moving object causing it to stop and eventually come to a stop. For example, the brakes on a car. The wheel is moving forward while the brakes are applied and move opposite of the wheel (backwards). There are three types of friction. They are sliding friction, fluid friction, and rolling friction. Rolling friction has to do with anything that has rolling items like wheels on a car. Fluid friction has to do anything with any gas or liquid. Finally, sliding friction has to do anything sliding like pushing a box.

http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/newtlaws/u2l2b.html

Friction is not good and very useful in many ways. One useful way friction is used is the tires of your car. You need friction because the car can stop. Also, in the brakes. If the brakes are too smooth, the brakes would fail and you would get into an accident. A way that friction is not good is that when you ave a heavy box, and you need to slide, it will be harder to slide it because of the weight and the friction. Lastly what causes friction is because of the two different surfaces. Like tire on concrete or wood on wood.

Curent Events (the first flying car)

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/engineering/article5489287.ece
Many people have made lies about the flying car, but this time it's not a lie. Scientist are working on a car that could fly and is small enough to fit in your garage. The only problem is that they still have to test the car in the flying part. They already passed the part for riving. Also, another problem is that it is illegal to take off of a regular road except for Alaska. If this becomes legal, there will be another problem because if you are on a highway, it is really hard to find an open spot to fly off of. The features of this plane is that it has wings that could bend because if you are driving, and is a two seat car/plane. Scientists say that they will work on the engine for flying and hopefully test fly it in February. If it is successful it will be a huge accomplishment. Too bad the flying car was said to be about $800,000.00!!!!!

My opinion of this article is that they should not make this car because it will cause more pollution in the air causing birds to die. This is not good because the flying car only take 500 miles per tank. It's not fuel efficient in any way because it will take a lot of fuel. (Plus to see how the car/plane works, there is a little video of it).

Social Studies blog (Inauguration of Barrack Obama)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/inauguration_rdp
On Tuesday 21, 2009 a a special moment came upon us. As the inauguration came, there is also a new page of history to be made. Therefore President Barrack Hussein Obama has became the first African-American president of the United States of America. In his speech he said, "We have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord." Meaning that we are brave and not scared, and that we have to fix the conflicts and harmony between us and others. Also, his speech was very influencing because he is proud to do what was never been done before, being the first black president of the United Stated of America.

My opinion about this article is that I am amazed that there were many people were really pleased with the arrival with the president Barrack Obama, and that we are proud to have our first African American.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/01/21/inauguration.online.video/index.html#cnnSTCText
On Tuesday 21, 2009 are record was broken. During the presidential inauguration, more than about twenty seven million people from around the world were watching President Barrack Obama being sworn-in. Those countries were including Kenya and Indonesia. Also, President Obama said, "We just made history. All of this happened because you gave your time, talent and passion. All of this happened because of you." Meaning that Obama wouldn't have been president if a lot of people didn't vote for him. Many people around the world were happy because of Barrack Obama.

My opinion about this article is that I am amazed that a lot of people were watching the inauguration for around the world, even though they are not in the United States. This also tells me that they deeply care about other countrie's presidents as much as their own.

Class Response (Waves)

There are many types of waves including sound waves, water waves, and Heat waves. There are also many different types of waves. Two types of waves that some waves appear in are the longitudinal waves and transverse waves. Longitudinal waves are visible if you push a slinky with force. You will see a part that are close together(compression) and when the parts of the slinky stretch apart is called rare fractions. Now in the transverse wave, you will need a coiled spring and shake it vertically. It will make a wave(similar to a water wave). In the transverse wave, the high point is called the crest and the low point is called the trough.

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/sound/tralon.html
There are many ways to see a transverse wave like on a string or waves of an ocean. Also, transverse waves are sometimes invisible(like sound waves). As for solid objects, transverse waves can travel through them easily. Transverse waves move on the surface of liquids such as water, milk, soda and many more.Except for gas.As for logitudinal waves, a great example of longitudinal waves are sound waves because the waves move back and forth from person to person.
